Intellectual property law

Intellectual property law is law referring to a brand, invention, design or other kind of creation, which a person or business has legal rights over

There are different areas within this law:
1) trademarks
2) patents 
3) copyright (also has own separate law)
4) design rights

Human rights act 1998

Values that keep society fair, just and equal (eg: children working hours, minimum wage)
In the past, rules or rights were based on kings/queens 
Dictators became popular and Human rights act came into place after WW2

Right to have security, right to have free speech, right to life

EG: hospitals have to treat you with compassion

Data protection act

Ensures all businesses in the UK must comply to 8 principles


1) data requires customers consent
2) data should only be kept for the reason it was collected
3) data should be kept accurate and up to date
4) data should only be kept for as long as it's needed
5) data should be made available to the data subject
6) data should be processed securely 
7) data should be processed within the UK
8) must be fair and lawful
